Second Baptist Church had its beginnings in a prayer meeting at a home in the Adrian Mill Village. The late Rev. M.L. Barnes then held a revival in what was called the park, and services were held for years in the Adrian Chapel, with interest growing in forming a church.
The congregation petitioned the Presbytery of the Gaston Baptist Association to organize the chapel into a Baptist church in the spring of 1938 with 19 charter members. The Presbytery approved the church on May 29, 1938, and called it Adrian Madora Baptist.
The members held their first homecoming on October 1, 1950, at which time the note on the church building was paid in full. The church then voted to start a building fund for the purpose of building a new church. On November 4, 1951 the congregation changed the name of the church to Second Baptist Church of Mount Holly.
The church purchased 12 acres at the corner of Rankin Avenue and Catawba Avenue on May 29th, 1989, opposite the former church grounds. On April 15, 1998 the church broke ground for the current worship center and educational classrooms, which included a 700 seat auditorium. The first service was held on December 12, 1999, and a dedication service was held on January 8, 2000.
In May 2002, a daycare facility was added called the Bee Hive. The current name of the daycare facility is Second Baptist Daycare and the newest building was added due to the growth of the daycare in 2015.
In these constantly changing and uncertain times the one thing we can continue to be sure of is the unchanging Lord. We know that He is in control and we will continue to teach the truth of the gospel while reaching out to the world around us. We would love for you and your family to come and contribute to the story of Second Baptist Church.
